September sermon series: the theology of the Eucharist
Throughout September, in our sermons we will be exploring the Eucharist. Not just as a ritual we do each week, but as the shape of our Christian life together. Using the flow of the Eucharistic liturgy, we will reflect on what happens when we gather at the Lord’s table, and how it forms us to live as Christ’s people in the world.
Each week will focus on a different theme.
7 September: Presence – Christ really with us, calling us to be faithfully present in the world
14 September: Sacrifice – the self-giving love of Christ and our call to offer ourselves
21 September: Communion – sharing in one bread and one body as God reconciles us to himself and one another
28 September: Anticipation – the Eucharist as a foretaste of God’s kingdom and our hope for renewal
This is an invitation to deepen our understanding and experience of the Eucharist, so that together we can enter more fully into worship and be transformed by Christ, the Host, at his table.
So join us at our services this month! If you join us in person, you will be able to learn about the Eucharist, and also participate in it. However, we realise not everybody will be able to make it, but you can livestream the service or catch up later at the St Paul Old Ford YouTube channel.
